Safety Precautions

You are about to play on a golf course that crosses a public road. REMEMBER, PEDESTRIANS AND TRAFFIC ALWAYS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY.

It is your responsibility to use care and good judgment as you play. You alone are responsible for your golf shots. In particular:

Hole # 1:  You MUST lay up short of the road from the tee.  It's approximately 165 yards to the road.

Holes # 1 and #5:   If you are uncomfortable hitting your shot over the road due to parked vehicles, you may play your shot to within 25 yards of the road, then drop your ball in the drop zone on the green side of the road. Alternatively, you may move your ball laterally to either side until you have a clear shot. Either way, no penalty.  (The 25-yard zone is marked by orange stakes.)

Holes #2 and #4: You must wait to tee off until there is no traffic or pedestrians.  If you are uncomfortable hitting over the road due to parked vehicles you may play from the blue tees on the green-side of the road with no penalty.

Hole #6: This hole does not cross the road but borders the road at the back of the green. Use caution not to hit your drive long.

If you strike a vehicle or pedestrian, you must (1) report the incident immediately to the Club House Attendant, and (2) leave a note with any damaged vehicle with your contact information, so that damages and repairs can be mutually arranged between you and the vehicle owner. Again, remember, you alone are responsible for your golf shots.

  1. Golf cart must not leave the grounds of the Great Chebeague Golf Club and cannot be driven on the road except to cross the road on holes #1, 2, 4, and 5. Cart must be left by the bushes near the 6th green and golfer must walk to the 7th tee. Only those with driver’s licenses are permitted to operate the cart.
  2. Motorized carts are due back to the clubhouse 15 minutes prior to the clubhouse closing.
  3. Golfers are not permitted to drive the cart to the Inn and park while dining, even if parked on clubhouse grounds.  GCGC has limited carts and they must be available to other golfers.
  4. Renter assumes all risks and is  financially responsible for any damage to the cart or individuals .  GCGC is not responsible for any property damage, bodily injury, or attorney fees arising out of the use or operation of the golf cart.
  5. Golf carts must be operated properly. Horseplay, racing, or other misuse of the cart will not be tolerated.  Alcohol use is not permitted when using a golf cart.   Golf carts can carry a maximum of 2 people who must be seated at all times
  6. Failure to follow any of the rules will result in the cart being returned to the clubhouse without a refund.  If found off of club property keys may be confiscated at location.

Please follow the map and follow paths and parking areas.  There are no hard surface cart paths so please adhere to the recommended paths to ensure we are protecting the fairways and natural areas of the course.  Note where carts are to be parked when user is teeing off.  The placement for parking is for the safety of all course users.  There are directional signs on the course for motorized cart use.

Once you’ve played golf on an island, you’ll never be the same.
